Product Description

Maria Bussmann's preferred medium is drawing and the drawing pencil. The starting point for this artist's book was an original drawing that she drew in pencil on a 21 x 1000 cm roll of fax paper in her studio in Vienna. The hand-bound artist's book was produced in 2012 in an edition of 100 copies.

The PhD philosopher draws inspiration from works such as Ludwig Wittgenstein's Tractatus, Spinoza's Ethics, texts by Martin Heidegger, Maurice Merleau-Ponty, and most recently, Hannah Arendt, to subtly and sketchily translate her perceptions into visibility. In parallel, she creates fragile mini-sculptures from paper, found objects, paint, and glue, usually with landscape-related content: icebergs, bridges, mountain paths, waterfalls. From snapshots of impressions, ideal depictions of certain concepts emerge.
