Kilobase Bucharest A-H, Ioana Nemes and Dragos Olea (Eds.), Mousse Publishing

A-H is part of a project connected to “Image to be projected until it vanishes,” a group show curated by Mihnea Mircan. This book, published by Kilobase Bucharest, a fictitious art gallery dreamed up by Dragos Olea and Ioana Nemes (the exhibition is dedicated to the latter, who passed away suddenly last April), is the first of three publications aimed at describing Bucharest through a sort of experimental primer: for each letter, eight artists and collectives have chosen a key term that represents a sliver of the Romanian capital.

The resulting portrait conveys the essence of Bucharest from a subjective standpoint that captures the infinite facets of the city’s life and culture.

Karl Holmqvist – Peep-Hole Sheet #08, A Trip to Tangier . Mousse Publishing

Working mainly with written, spoken, or performed texts, poet and artist Karl Holmqvist experiments here the potential of the ‘empty spread’ of Peep-Hole Sheet. Investigating thus the inner nature of the medium and its open, ambiguous and sometimes contradictory relations with the ‘caravan of signs moving across it’. His A Trip to Tangier is in fact not only a travel in time and space, conveying a strong sense of awareness and freedom, but is also an hypnotic wandering through the possibilities and limits of language. As for many of his publications and videos, Holmqvist opts here for the sharpness of black and white: “I have stuck with black-and-white because it ’s stylish and refers back to text, and to the idea that all of reality could be seen as a type of writing or an act of communication.”

Peep-Hole Sheet #07 – Pavel Büchler

Peep Hole Sheet Issue 07, Winter 2011, PAVEL BÜCHLER

Pavel Büchler is an artist, lecturer and writer. He is committed to the catalytic nature of art – its potential to draw attention to the obvious and revealing it as
ultimately strange. Notes from the bottom of a bag is released in conjunction of his exhibition Working Title (in collaboration with Evangelia Spiliopoulou) at Peep-Hole.
In almost two years, this is the first time that the exhibition program and the contribution for the editiorial project overlap. It is not a coincidence, but a way to pay homage to an intellectual we think is one of the key figures on the art scene in Europe and around the world.
The text is composed of a series of notes gathered and collected. As Büchler says at the beginning of the text, they “are unresolved, undeveloped, unrehearsed and unrevised. They are left that way so that the writing can continue.” They are ‘useless’ notes that build a discussion around ‘nothing’ and (like art) acquire meaning by saying (doing) that which is meaningless in itself.
