Product Description

The opening of the Bourse de Commerce – Pinault Collection was born from François Pinault's desire to invest in a place, tailored to the size of his collection, whose architecture was carefully restored and redesigned by Tadao Ando. The Japanese architect reinvented the Bourse de Commerce by placing it in the 21st century and shaping this unique place into a setting where old and modern materials coexist.

La Bourse de Commerce, the new museum of the Pinault Collection, retraces the adventure of this place, from the origins of its construction to the present day, and presents readers with sketches, archive documents and photos of the different stages of the work. Visitors are invited to view its new function, that of a museum, which Tadao Ando's eye knew how to enhance.

This book tells and illustrates the story of an emblematic monument transformed into a museum of contemporary art, designed today to exhibit, share and inspire the collection that François Pinault has assembled for more than 40 years. The book traces the evolution, both respectful and radical, of a unique building with a little-known heritage. Through all those involved in the project, and in particular through the voices of Tadao Ando, Lucie Niney and Thibault Marca, the architects of its transformation, and that of Pierre-Antoine Gatier, the chief architect of Historic Monuments who ensured its restoration, this richly illustrated and documented volume sheds light on the birth of the Pinault Collection museum in Paris.
